Preservation: The old māqam was originally located in the cemetery of the al-Jawabrah clan, who claimed the saint as an ancestral patron. The shrine has been replaced recently by a new building at the border of a high cliff. The interior houses the tomb which is clad by modern limestone slabs. The visit today is even for Muslims quite complicated since the maqām is located within the area of the local police headquarter camp.

Inscription(s): none known.

Date(s): The companion of the Prophet Jābir ibn ʿAbd Allāh al-Anṣārī was murdered by Abū Muḥammad al-Ḥajjāj ibn Yūsuf ibn al-Ḥakam ibn ʿAqīl al-Thaqāfī, the Umayyad governor of Iraq, in H 78 / 697 AD. He was initially buried near river Tigris along with Ḥudhayfah ibn al-Yamān, another companion of prophet Muḥammad. In 1930 his mortal remains were exhumed and reburied at Madyān, Iraq. The location of his tomb at aṭ-Ṭafīlah is, therefore, apogryphical. The old maqām was recently replaced by a new building.
